Rebeca Bradley’s 12 Tips for Breeders

For those of you who enjoyed our interview with Rebeca Bradley in our March 2018 newsletter, here is some bonus material. Rebeca’s list of tips for breeders.

  1. A good breeder knows her dogs, pups and will help the puppy buyer to get the dog they want.
  2. Wait till week 7 to choose a pup out of your own litter.  And if choosing between 2 pups, pick the one that has picked you.
  3. Protect what you have!
  4. Use the best that you can find and build on that.
  5. Dream
  6. Encourage others.
  7. Inbreeds do need to be crossed out and can be brought back.
  8. You will have big disappointments, lose pups/dogs and have set backs.
  9. Put money back into the dogs. You will have bills!
  10. Breeding is not for the “ faint at heart”, its hard work!
  11. Be the best breeder you can be.
  12. Perseverance on the long run will get you what you are looking for. “ The new breed was in the old concealed, The old is in the new revealed”.

Good advice! Refreshing, so different from the run of the mill do’s and don’ts often imposed as biblical legalities. There is room for diversity in good breeding practices and this advice (above) covers some basics in a most encouraging way. Thank you!
