New Pedigree Database Launched
Our new pedigree database launched today, please try it out and let us know what you think. It is located at www.scotchcollie.org/registry
This has many improvements over the old one, some of them are:
- Registered users can add and update dogs and upload images
- Search database
- Try out test matings and build pedigrees
- More room for extra text and pictures
- Works on mobile devices
- All collies are welcome, not just registered OTSC
I think the best thing is that it is now open for people too add and update dogs themselves. There are a few restrictions to this:
- You must be a registered user to make changes
- Only a dog’s owner, breeder or the person who initially added the dog may make changes to a dogs information.
- Registered users who find an error in a dog’s record that they cannot edit may flag request changes to this dog’s record and make notes as to what need to be fixed.
- A dog’s owner may request OTSC registration by simply clicking the register button on their dogs listing.
- If a user is also listed as a dog owner or breeder then only that person can change their personal info. Anybody can change a person’s info if that person is not a registered user.
You may leave your impressions of the new database along with any suggestions in the comments section below.
Don’t forget that the Scotch Collie IS the Collie, only that we have changed the Collie so much over the years. I, too, prefer a more moderate dog with less heavy, profuse coat, wider backskull, shorter muzzle, a truly medium-sized eye, and even a more heavily tipped ear. I hope we start seeing black and tans and black and whites, again. We lost so many colors a century ago. I still hold out and hope that some people are inadvertently registering their black and whites (bi-bloacks) as tri-coloprs, as I really do like the color. We almost lost the blue merle a century ago, too, but it is alive and well.

Some of the NKC registered OTFS have black and tan coloring, take a look at http://www.oldtimefarmshepherd.org/pictures-of-historic-shepherd-dogs/chandler-strunks-dogs/
Ours is black with a little white and brown. She has the long muzzle , and I prefer it. I hope breeders won’t breed that out. I don’t know what to say about the ears, sometimes up, sometimes down flat. She is the best dog ever though!
